It would be nice if there were some kind of nursery numeric alert feature that implements
some simple socket features by listening a specified port.
I have recently developed in Java a application that listens on a specified port for a message from a client software that sits on pc in the nursery. It displays a simple 3 digit numeric
message on the screen and after 5 seconds closes automatically. You all may have seen something similar to this in churches where they use a 3 digit LED display to alert parents that presence is needed in the nusery.
My issue is this, I don't like have to obscure the worship slides while openLP is running by letting my server application pop the nursery alert message that covers the screen. It would
be awesome as well as fairly simple to have OpenLP "listen" on a specified port for an incoming message and display it in the upper right corner. It already has saved us over $700 by using an old pc joined to the church network. I say $700 because when we initially went to purchase the digital signs for the nursery it was going to cost that much.
The two Java apps I wrote work fine for now but an integration of OpenLP with something like I described would be very nice.
Does anyone else agree?
