Is it possible to ensure only 2 lines text on each slide?

Hi. I don't want to see the whole verse up on the screen but just two lines at a time. Is there any way to create this default without having to create multiple "verses" for 1 verse?

  • Adjusting the theme so that your "main area" is smaller is the first step that I took. If that does everything you want then ignore the next bit.

The people at my church are pretty passionate about how the words flow visually and how that affects the way they would expect to sing. To do that I create a break in the verse.
When editing a song you can select "Edit All" and create an intentional break by using the same verse/chorus/bridge/ending tag/marker.

This is different from an "optional break" because it forces the break to occur instead of letting OpenLP decide for itself. I find that its better than creating another whole verse because of the way OpenLP does verse ordering.

You can do this by either (using Verse 1 as an example):
    1. Using the "Insert" function
    a) Navigate to where you want the break
    b) Select "Verse Type" as "Verse" and the "Number" as "1"
    c) Click Insert

    2. Copying the tag/marker
    a) Highlight ---[Verse:1]---
    b) Navigate to where you want the break
    c) Paste it

    It'll kinda look like this

    The original

    ---[Verse:1]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line

    With a break
    ---[Verse:1]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    ---[Verse:1]---
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line

I hope its helpful... I realised after writing this that I may not have answered the question because you mentioned that you didn't want to create multiple verses. But I already wrote it so I figured there's no harm
  • Hi,

    I use this technique:

    The original

    ---[Verse:1]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line
    ---[Verse:2]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line
    ---Chorus:1]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line

    Revised version
    ---[Verse:11]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    ---[Verse:12]---
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line
    ---[Verse:21]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    ---[Verse:22]---
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line
    ---[Chorus:11]---
    This is the first line
    This is the second line
    ---[Chorus:12]---
    This is the third line
    This is the fourth line

    Song scheduler : v11 v12 c11 c12 v21 v22 c11 c12

    It works for me.
