<p>Windows 7 prevents applications from writing to the "program files" or "windows" directories...the application needs to be adjusted to use user directories instead. programdata would be a good spot to store files that are for all users who log on to the computer. </p>
<p>I believe that different APIs get the working directory differently on windows 7, in order to accomplish this feature (along with UAC preventing access), the hack is to hard code specific paths in order to keep it in program files, but the better way, is to make use of the user common areas for storing program data. The application should remain in c:\program files in order to protect it from "unauthorized" programs changing the executables.</p>
