A hopefully successfull update after many hours of going through many, many, permutations :-)

For the record the Computer motherboard we are using is a “VIA VT8378 (KM400) Northbridge and VT8235/VT8237 Southbridge chipsets” using an “AMD 2500 Atholon Processor”, 1.2 Gigs of ram, Win XP Service Pack 3, and Direct X 9c.

I observed fairly early on that the fault above had to be related to the ATI Radeon 9200 dual head video card that we were using in the show computer. Due to the case design, we had to use a low profile card, and this one fitted the bill perfectly. One plus with it was that it's software allowed the onboard Via Video card to operate as well, although we were not using it. I had switched off the onboard video and ran using both heads of the Radeon card with the previous version of OpenLp without issue.

I removed the Radeon card, and OpenLP ran perfectly, one monitor only, and the program close was fine - no crash at program exit! I also tried a number of other VGA Cards in combinations with no success, admittedly they were “old” ones.

I then tried various permutations of the Radeon 9200 Card Out 1 / Out 2 / Onboard video combinations, as Main Monitor / Data projector. When I struck the setup combination using the Radeon Card "Out 1" as "Main Monitor", and the "Data Projector" running on the onboard "Via Card", it is stable, no crash at program close, and all appears to run fine.

Earlier in the faultfinding exercise I had completely uninstalled the Radeon Card drivers, and management software, when trying other video card combinations, so when I had to use it again I only installed the drivers, not the management software that they provide.

As an observation, and not decrying them, one might humbly suggest that OpenLP users should be wary of Radeon cards, nice as they are, if they have them in their systems.

Prior to re-installation I literally tried my best to make it crash, but all was fine, and no issue at all. The only identifiable problem I found was attempting to run Text over Video, maybe that function isn’t available at present a problem which I see Phill has confirmed..

At this stage all is stable, back in service and ran the Data Projector system for last Sunday’s service without issue.

Thankyou Phill for your suggestions, and confirmation of the VGA Card contention problem.

In His Service,

Terry

(for Nelson Baptist, NZ)
