Import songs from other database

edited January 2013 in General Support

Hi! We've got a database with songs in the .mdb format (Microsoft database). I can open it and read it (in Access or Openoffice Base) and convert it to mostly any other format (inkluding .csv). So importing the songs to OpenLP should be possible.

But I don't know how to make a file that OpenLP can import.

I've read somewhere that OpenLP 1.2 uses .csv for import/export. So this would be a natural place to start.
But can anyone explain how OpenLP 1.2 .csv-files are built?
Is there a specification of required fields, tags and so on?

  • From memory, I don't think 1.2 has a CSV import option for Songs, this is for Bibles. However we haven't supported 1.2 for quite some time.

You should really be upgrading to 2.0.1. This has numerous import options, for a number of different worship programs. The default is an XML format, see http://openlyrics.info/ if you can export to this.

However the option to import Zionworx songs expects a CSV format and looking at the code it appears to want the following columns:

ignored, "Main Title", "Alternate title", "Lyrics", "Authors", "Copyright", ignored, ignored

For the lyrics, the verses are separated by blank lines.
