Start up problems with audio and presentation

I have discovered this program on the net and it looks fantastic! I'm having problems with the following and would appreciate any help.

Running windows 7 64bit, OpenLP 2.0.4, VLC 2.1.3, OpenOffice 4.0.0 for Impress.

Problems:

1. I can load mp3 and mp4 files, they all play as I can see the controls move, and in the case with mp4, I can see the video, but no audio in either.

2. I can load a presentation from Impress, I shows up in preview, but no output in the screen below. It just shows the default screen.

Hi!

Make sure that you have enabled VLC and set it as the first player in the settings. See http://manual.openlp.org/configure.html?#media

I'd recommend that you install LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice, since it is more actively developed and has better compatibility with other formats. After installation open Impress and disable the presentation console, since it has to be disabled for Impress to work with OpenLP.

I presume you've checked your volume levels? That's the only thing I can think of.

How are you connecting the screen/s to the computer?

Are you using HDMI cables for any of the connections?
If so, could the computer be sending any audio through the HDMI rather than through the computer speakers?

If you play one of your video/audio files directly with VLC, do you get sound?
