What Is the Status of Presentation Support?

I did a Search about importing and using presentations (PowerPoint and Impress) and saw a number of old posts about it.

I would like to have this capability for programs, particularly because we sometimes have visiting speakers who bring presentations with them

Running LibreOffice 4.2.3.3 in Debian Linux, the presentation config said that Impress and PP were unavailable. And when I tried to import an Impress file in Media Manager, I was told it was unsupported.

Currently OpenLP 2.0 on Linux does not support LibreOffice 4.x. This is due to LibreOffice removing Python 2 support for its integration library. We're hoping to release 2.2 in the next few months, which should solve this.

LaneLester since you are on Debian if you go back to Libreoffice from the debian main repository.  I know 4.1.5 is a little old and not as nice and faster as 4.2.3.  Debian has maintained python-uno package with Python 2 bindings.

Of course I am looking forward to the 2.2 release where I can use the latest from Libreoffice and not wait for debian team to import Libreoffice and do the testing work on python-uno.

Thanks for the suggestions, but presentation capability does not have a high enough priority for me to bother with old programs.

I tested the presentation function at church today, using LibreOffice 3.4.2 (older version) and PowerPoint Viewer as available programs. This is what I observed:

• Tried to load .odp file in Media Manager. The progress bar at the bottom went to 100% and stayed there.  Task manager said OpenLP not responding, so I ended it.
• Tried to load .pptx, and progress went to 50% before it hung.
• Tried to load .ppt and was told it was imcompatible (with PowerPoint Viewer?)

I find it is easier to load the presentation in LO or PP and then just use the show desktop feature to show the presentation.

I can see that would be true, but I'm hoping to be able to use OpenLP's remote function with presentations.

LO has a remote app for impress that you could use.
