Initial User experience - rather bad then good

I love OpenLP.

It being used in my church for years and I also support the product to be translated to Russian (and now think about Ukrainian translation).

Now I think about initial user experience. It is bad I would say.

And we are talking about:

  1. Ugly Themes
  2. Strange default setting for songs (left upper corner, 12 PT)

I recommended OpenLP to my friend and that what they asked: why it looks so bad on screen?

But actually it can be fixed easily... or not? For newbie?

What was you initial experience?

Shall it be changed with some neutral but modern and coold schema for FullHD display with reasonabli big font, etc?
