Thanks a lot for all the work to release the new Version. All the best and god with you in the new year
Thanks for all the hard work on the new release. What's the best way to revert back to 2.4.6 just in case something doesn't work right? Running Win10. Thanks and God bless!
When you upgrade a backup is made, see the manual for how to restore a backup: https://manual.openlp.org/troubleshooting.html#downgrade-guide-how-to-restore-a-backup
Got it...thanks!!
+1 thank you!
Really looking forward to trying this out.
Thanks for the new release. However I have a problem with 3.0.
I just downloaded the Mac version and loaded it onto my MacBookPro (Retina, 13inch, 2015, 8GB) and it takes 2 full minutes to initialize before it presents the main screen. For the first two minutes it presents the splash logo and a spinning beachball.
I should have added the operating system is MacOS 12.3.1
The new version on OpenLP supports controlling Keynote and PowerPoint, and maybe the delay is created when OpenLP tries to start up those applications on your Mac. If so, try to disable the integration in the Presentation settings.
Can't do that. All the presentation options are greyed-out apart from PDF which is checked. A PDF works when selected, but if it's the wrong aspect ratio the default song theme is displayed behind it.
Got it!
If you uncheck the "Check for updates to OpenLP" on the General Page of Preferences/Configure, it starts up without any problem.
What does "VLC (requires restart)" mean on Configuration Media page?
I've got a weird one for 3.0 and I saw this as well with the betas that were released. When showing a presentation, the left and right edges used to be black all the time in 2.4.6 but now they're the color of the current theme (see images). This is somewhat distracting to viewers. Is there a way to change this? My workaround is to choose a theme with a black background, choose a song, then run the presentation.
Thanks
Yeah, I want to know that, too. But it was there previously - at least in 2.9.4 - but I think back in 2.4.6, and maybe earlier.
I especially want to know if 3.0 is 'worth my time' upgrading an Apple Silicon Mac, given the problems I and others have experienced with OpenLP finding VLC.
That's not a criticism of Raoul, TGC, and the other members of the development team. If you don't have these machines, you can't test your software on them. And I don't expect you to be able to go and purchase every latest piece of hardware that's released.
Having said that, I just read the blog post with the new features listed.
It says that VLC is bundled with OpenLP in macOS and windows. Does that mean that VLC will always be found? Or does it simply mean that we don't have to go to the VLC website to download VLC?
@AndrewK VLC libraries are now included with OpenLP. Did you upgrade directly from 2.4.6 or uninstalled it first and then reinstalled the 3.0?
The VLC (requires restart) option in Settings means that if any option inside it is changed, the OpenLP should be restarted to apply them.
In Settings -> Images, there's a setting to allow images to use custom themes. Can you check if 'Blank' option is checked?
Please excuse my English, it comes from Google. First of all thank you very much for your work. It is my pleasure to work with OpenLP. In version 3.0.0 there is still a small problem with the sorting of the songs. This worked before in 2.4.6. I have sent a picture. Maybe you can still change that. Many Thanks.
Yes 'Blank' is checked

It means that we package VLC with OpenLP. You don't need to go and download it.
Thanks, @meyer and @raoul .
I discovered the bad news a few hours after I posted my question.
My Apple silicon MacBook Pro still won't find VLC.
It used to! Everything was fine until a week or two before Christmas. Sunday morning service on 11 December is when everything went haywire for me. Given that everything was working properly on this Mac on the previous Sunday, something must have been changed during the week between the two Sundays, 4 and 11 December.
When you look at any change logs, you'll need to remember that I'm in your future! So, I'd suggest looking at the Friday prior, 2 December and going through to Saturday 10 December for changes made which have caused OpenLP to stop finding VLC.
I'm just trying to narrow the possible time period of when things worked as they should and when they stopped working. And then convert that from Australian time to American time.
Hi @AndrewK
You write that between December 2 and 10, VLC detection broke. So this would mean that an upgrade in that time frame most likely broke the detection. There was no OpenLP release in that period, and even no commits to the code base, which means something else on the Mac must have changed.
So you probably need to look at the upgrade log of the Mac, if such a thing exists...
Oh, and you also need to convert the time to European time ????
Thank you for reporting this. It is unfortunately a known issue and we're looking into it.
Hi @tgc,
I apologise. I didn't, and still don't, know your location. I know only Raoul's location. He and I have a loose connection; he used to attend the same church in South Africa as do friends of mine from Australia who are missionaries in South Africa. That was a very clumsy sentence, but I hope that you understand what I was trying to say.
Yes, VLC detection worked for me in the service on Sunday 4 December.
I was aware that there were no releases of OpenLP in the week that followed that Sunday. But that didn't mean that there were no code changes during that time.
[I don't know how your system works, but I've experienced plenty of commercial and government systems where I've been told things like, oh, we haven't made any changes, but when you push people a bit further, you discover that, no, there weren't any official changes, but there were changes. And those unofficial changes have caused hours, if not days of delays. In my decades of systems operations support, I became very cynical. And it isn't a good trait, nor an easy one to overcome. That's a little explanation of what's behind my questions. Please take it in the spirit that it's meant.]
I might have installed an upgrade to VLC at some time during that week. I can't remember that sort of detail from nearly a month ago. The version of VLC installed is 3.0.18; the creation and modification dates on this version are the same - 2022-10-14 @ 0453 hrs. But that doesn't mean that that's when I downloaded and installed the update. I have tried going back one version of VLC - to 3.0.17. It didn't make any difference to the problems being experienced. But I'm not so certain that everything that could have been referencing VLC was deleted when I went back. I'd need to look more thoroughly at what files need to be deleted and then have another attempt.
What's your OS of choice? If it's a flavour of UNIX, you might care to tell me where you find the upgrade log, if such a thing exists. And a filename wouldn't go astray. That would help me locate an upgrade log here.
Back to timezones, I'm in UTC+10 hours + 1 for DST (southern hemisphere).
I hope some of this is interesting and/or helpful.
Blessings,
Andrew
He actually said there were no code changes in that time either. Even if there were, however, that's not how your local install of OpenLP is updated. You have to actually install a new version of OpenLP, so it has to be some other system update that caused the issue.
@mhalbrook
Please see the message I sent you.
Andrew
Just an update on this...I've tried both Blank Theme and Custom Theme under Images. Just for clarification, this is happening on Presentations not Images...don't know if it makes any difference or not.
