OpenLP on OS X 10.7 Lion

Has anyone else had any success getting OpenLP to start under Lion? I've tried several different ways to get it to start, but except for the icon flashing into the dock for a second, nothing happens. If anyone is thinking about upgrading their lyrics machine to Lion, you may want to hold off on doing that for the moment.

Have you tried any of the latest nightly builds?

  • edited July 2011

Yes, and I encountered the same problem.

Thanks for the advice, I was considering upgrading but was wondering how it would affect my apps and of course OpenLP. Guess I will hold off until that issue is resolved.

Man, I was really hoping to make the switch from LiveWorship to OpenLP with the upgrade to Lion. I'll just have to check back for updates over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately with money being a scarcity for most of the developers, the Mac world is slightly neglected. If anyone is willing to go through a bit of a mission to set up the development environment on Lion, we'd be more than happy to help them work through this issue.

In the mean time, can you guys with Lion please post a debug log file? It might have some clues in it. You can e-mail it to support (at) openlp.org.

Good news! One of the developers has upgraded to Lion, and is going to work on getting OpenLP running on it.

Yup I'm having this error too as well. Here is a log... I don't know if this helps whoever is trying to figure it out.

Can't wait for it to be finished so I can upgrade. You guys rock!

  • edited July 2011

We are waiting for a patch release of Qt4, one of the libraries we use, which is causing OpenLP to fall over on OS X 10.7. Unfortunately we don't know when this will be released.

Is that the Qt that comes from Nokia?

I really know so very little about programming outside of some of the very basic Cocoa stuff that I can't be sure that I'd understand anything about it, but I was doing a search and came across this thread:

    http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/7984

If it helps, great, if not, hope I haven't wasted anyone's time.

Yeah, we also found that thread Laughing

Any timeframe, and when a Lion version will be available...even for testing? I was going to try and d/l the 2.0 beta but couldn't find any link to it here or on SF.

    Hi miguk,

This item in our bugs tracker details the progress: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openlp/+bug/814990

The issue with Lion support is in the compliling process and various dependencies such as PyInstaller, PyQt and MacPorts... http://www.pyinstaller.org/ticket/388#comment:12

Timeframe? Please remember this is free software developed in people's own/spare time. Even expensive commercial offerings like MediaShout took more than two months to support Lion!

    Cheers
    Sam

PS There is a possiblity you may get it working by running from source, but it's not easy to setup...
