Openlp 1.9.12 crashes on my windows vista laptop. It says DEP prevented openlp.exe from starting. But it works great on my windows 7 desktop. I use openlp on my laptop everyweek for my new church start please help in this.

DEP = Data Execution Prevention. It is a Windows security feature that helps prevent damage from viruses and other security threats.

Thanks for the bug report. It seems like this is realted to the PyInstaller tool we use for openlp. This tool is probably not compliant with DEP.

I tried the steps in the comment about DEP and it still didn't work. I hope you guys get this bug fixed. I really love this program

Is the problem with VISTA Laptop solved?

I'm having the same problem. OpenLP crashes with the same DEP-errormessage (in my case however in Dutch ;-))

Please assist to get this programm work on my laptop!

Hi John, when looking at the error message it looks like there is an issue with the driver of your graphics card. Could you please try to install new version of the AMD Catalyst drivers on your Windows Vista?

I am getting in on this late, but I had talked with a user in IRC having the same issue with Vista. OpenLP did not show up in a list of applications that DEP could be disabled for. The only solution we could work out was to disable DEP system wide. I really don't know if that is a good practice or not, it appeared to not really matter from most things I read. Here is the guide: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/120778-dep-enable-disable.html Follow steps 1,3,4 and reboot and all should be good. Be sure NOT to forget step 1. I am by no means a windows expert so I'm sure making a restore point backing up and whatever other preparation someone needs to make before possibly toasting their computer should be in order, but this really doesn't seem to reach that deep into things.

That's a pain - DEP, when applied in hardware, effectively differentiates between pages of memory used to store code and pages of memory used to store data. The basic idea is that if someone tries to exploit an existing vulnerability in code, such as a buffer overflow, the code that the attacker uses ends up in a data page (usually the stack), and so can't be executed. So, DEP is a useful countermeasure. I

There have been pointers towards the ATI drivers causing DEP issues for other programs such as hugin (a panorama stitcher), so it might be useful to know what version of the atioglxx.dll is in use to try to identify if this is a version.
