Now using 3.0.2 with remote 0.9.9, still no means to authenticate.

Wide-screen TVs have an aspect ratio of 16x9, so any image with this ratio should be OK. I use 1366x768. If your PC has a different aspect ratio you will see blank bars in the preview but the display device will be OK.
